Q&A: Wood briquettes
How much do wood briquettes cost?
All three RUF briquettes — light, dark and birch — cost €4.50 per pack at our warehouse (10 kg, 12 briquettes). The price includes VAT. For delivery, a delivery cost is added, which depends on the order size and location.
Can I buy wood briquettes in small packs in Tallinn?
Yes. Tammaru Farm sells RUF wood briquettes in single 10 kg packs (12 briquettes) — no pallet needed. The price is €4.50 per pack at our Tallinn warehouse, Veerme 23 (on the Nõmme border). The minimum warehouse order is 12 units in total, and briquette packs can be combined with firewood bags and cow manure bags in one order. Delivery in Tallinn and Harju County usually takes 1–3 working days.
Are briquettes suitable for heating stoves, fireplaces and wood-fired boilers?
Yes, RUF wood briquettes generally suit most common heating appliances — heating stoves, fireplaces, cooking stoves, boilers and Bullerjan-type stoves. With an older stove built of stones or bricks and clay mortar, it is wise to heat more moderately — see below.
Can briquettes be used together with firewood?
Yes, briquettes can be used freely together with firewood, for example by lighting the fire with firewood and then adding briquettes.
How many briquettes should I put in the stove at once?
It depends on the type and size of the heating appliance. In a newer cast-iron fireplace or boiler you can follow the manufacturer's instructions, but with an older masonry stove it is best to start modestly — with 1–2 briquettes at a time — and watch how the stove reacts to the heat, rather than filling the firebox right away.
Are briquettes suitable for old stoves built with clay mortar?
This is worth knowing. At first, briquettes give a faster, higher and shorter burst of heat than ordinary firewood, and over the years this extra load can wear the clay mortar between the old stones or bricks. To some extent the same applies to firewood with a very high heating value used in large quantities over a long time. If you have an old stove built with clay mortar, we recommend using briquettes moderately and together with firewood, not in large quantities every day, and having the stove checked by a stove builder from time to time. With newer fireplaces and sauna stoves that have a cast-iron or refractory concrete firebox, this is not a concern.
What are the briquettes made of?
Compressed wood sawdust (RUF technology), without glues or chemicals.
Can I try a smaller quantity?
The minimum warehouse order is 12 units in total. We sell briquettes by the pack only (10 kg). The minimum can be reached by combining products — for example, together with firewood in mesh bags.
Can I buy briquettes by the pallet?
No, we sell briquettes by the pack only (10 kg, 12 briquettes). We recommend ordering them together with kiln-dried firewood in mesh bags — the minimum warehouse order is 12 units in total, and briquette packs, firewood bags and cow manure bags can be combined in one order.
