💡 Good to know
AI is a computer program that can read and write text. It is not a living being or a person – it answers what you ask. There is no need to be afraid: you cannot break anything by typing. AI can sometimes be wrong, so double-check important things.
Write in full sentences, as you would to a friend. Your English does not need to be perfect, and typing mistakes do not matter – AI understands you even if you make mistakes.
The free version of ChatGPT also works without an account. Other AIs, such as Gemini, Copilot and Claude, need a free account (as of October 2026). Without an account, your chat is not saved: when you close the window, it is gone. You do not need to enter any bank card details.
If you want to ask about something completely different, press the “New chat” button. That way the new topic does not get mixed up with the old one. You can stop a chat at any time and close the window.
ChatGPT shows its buttons in the language of your phone or computer. If they are in Estonian, “Logi sisse” means “Log in”, “Uus vestlus” means “New chat”, and the message box says “Küsi ChatGPT-lt”. You can still write in English, and ChatGPT will answer in English.
🎯 What you will learn: how to write a whole sentence instead of one word and get a more precise answer.
✋ Try it now
- Copy this sentence – press the button below:
Suggest one simple and cheap soup with potatoes and carrots in it. Write the recipe briefly, in no more than five steps.
- Open ChatGPT – press the button below: Type just one word into the message box: Soup. Press the blue arrow ↑ and look at the answer.
- Now paste the copied sentence into the same box and send it.
On a phone, press and hold the box; on a computer, right-click it. Choose “Paste” and press the blue arrow ↑.
If a window appears asking you to log in or sign up, press the cross ✕ in its top right corner and carry on. This window appears about every 4 questions. If it bothers you, you can create a free account: then the window does not appear and your chats are saved.
💡 Good to know
If you only type “Garden”, AI does not know what you want: to plan a new garden, deal with pests or read about gardening jobs. It has to guess, so it gives a general answer. A full sentence tells it straight away what you need.
Start with a verb, such as write, suggest, explain or translate. Then say what you are asking about. If you want a short answer, add a number, such as “three” or “in one sentence”. Example: “Suggest three simple board games to play with my grandchildren.”
On Google, we often type keywords, such as “back pain exercises”. With AI, write as if you were asking a person: “Please suggest…” or “How could I…”. The clearer your sentence, the more precise the answer.
AI does not get offended and does not need politeness. Write in the way that feels natural to you. The answer will be friendly either way. A short question simply gives a more general answer.
If the answer is long, general or about something you are not interested in, your question was too short. Before sending, read your sentence again. If a stranger would understand what you want, AI will too.
🎯 What you will learn: when you add 2–3 sentences about your situation to your question, you get advice that suits you.
✋ Try it now
- Copy this sentence – press the button below:
I want to give a present to my 65-year-old neighbour, who loves fishing and gardening. I live in Estonia and can spend up to 30 euros. Suggest three gift ideas and write one sentence about each.
- Open ChatGPT – press the button below:
- Paste the sentence into the message box and send it.
On a computer: right-click the box and choose “Paste”.
On a phone: press and hold the box, then choose “Paste”.
Then press the blue arrow ↑ on the right of the box.
Now try it with your own life: press “New chat”, write about something you need help with and add 2–3 sentences about your situation.
💡 Good to know
A good question = your situation + what you want. Write the things that change the answer: where you live, who it is for, how much money or time you have and what you already have. When you write in English, AI may assume you live in the UK or the USA. If you say “I live in Estonia”, it will not suggest shops abroad or plants that cannot survive the winter here. If you are a beginner, say so too – then AI explains things more simply.
You can describe your situation without giving your name. Write “I live in Tartu County”, not your exact address, and “a 65-year-old woman”, not your name or your isikukood (personal identification code). AI understands it just as well. You will find more safety tips in Topic 7.
No – AI does not get tired of reading. Write as if you were explaining your problem to a handyman: what happened, what you have already tried and what you want. The more it knows, the less it has to guess. You do not have to write everything, though: even one sentence about your situation helps.
Let AI ask you. Write what you want and add at the end: “First ask me 3 questions so that you can help me better.” Answer its questions, and then it will give you its advice.
🎯 What you will learn: when an answer is too long or does not suit you, you ask AI to change it – and get exactly the answer you need.
✋ Try it now
- Copy this sentence – press the button below:
How can I keep my home warm in winter and lower my heating bills? I live in a detached house in Estonia.
- Open ChatGPT, paste the sentence into the message box and send it. On a computer, right-click the box; on a phone, press and hold it. Choose “Paste” and press the blue arrow ↑. The answer will probably be long.
- Type this sentence yourself into the same box below the answer and send it:
Give me only the 3 most important points.
If a point is unclear, type: Explain point 2 step by step.
💡 Good to know
No. You can talk to AI as you would to a person: if the answer is not quite right, type what to change in the same box. Within the same chat, AI remembers what you wrote earlier, so you do not need to explain your problem again.
Type a short request under the answer, for example “Make it half as long.”, “Tell me more about point 2.” or “Explain it more simply, as if to a 10-year-old.” For a clear overview, try “Put this in a table.” or “Write it step by step.” You can also ask “What are the cheaper options?” or “Compare these two options in a table.”
Tell it directly, for example: “That is not right – I have no milk at home. Give me a recipe without milk.” AI will correct its answer straight away. If it keeps getting it wrong, start a new chat and write your question more precisely.
AI writes every answer afresh, so the words and ideas can differ – this is not a mistake. If you do not like an answer, press the button with a circular arrow under it, and you will get a new answer to the same question. Sometimes AI does not follow your request exactly, for example it writes more than you asked for. Then correct it with one short sentence.
🎯 What you will learn: AI writes a letter for you in Estonian, and you send it in your own name. AI also explains Estonian letters you receive in simple English.
✋ Try it now
- Copy this sentence – press the button below:
Write a short, polite letter in Estonian to my internet provider. The price has gone up, but the internet is slow and often cuts out. Ask them to review my contract and offer a better solution.
- Open ChatGPT, paste the sentence into the message box and send it. On a computer, right-click the box; on a phone, press and hold it. Choose “Paste” and press the blue arrow ↑.
- Copy the finished letter.
Under the answer, press the first button – two small squares. The letter is now copied, and you can paste it into your email, for example Gmail.
If it sounds too strict, type: Make the Estonian letter friendlier. Then copy the new letter the same way.
💡 Good to know
Say four things: who the letter is for, what the problem is, what you want and which language to write in – Estonian or English. Add the tone too, for example “polite and to the point”, “warm and friendly” or “without official jargon”. This way you can write a request to your local council (vald or linn), a congratulations card for a neighbour or an invitation to your grandchildren.
No. Without an account, AI usually leaves gaps such as [Your name] or [Address] – in an Estonian letter, for example [Teie nimi], which means “your name”. Fill them in yourself after pasting the letter into your email. If you are logged in to ChatGPT, it may put your account name at the end. Before sending, check that the name and details are correct.
Copy the text of the letter into the ChatGPT box and write before it: “Explain this Estonian letter in simple English. What do I need to do?” Before pasting, delete your name, isikukood (personal identification code) and bank account number from the text. Always check deadlines and amounts in the original letter.
You should. Read the letter, or its English translation, before sending: AI may add things you did not say, such as a date or a promise. Ask AI to remove them, for example: “Remove the date from the letter.” That way the letter says only what you mean.
Yes. Paste your text into the box and type: “Check the spelling in this text and correct the mistakes, but keep my message the same.” You get a clean text that is still yours. This also works when you try writing in Estonian yourself.
🎯 What you will learn: how to get a dinner idea from what you already have at home, and how to ask for advice about problems in the home and garden.
✋ Try it now
- Copy this sentence – press the button below:
I have potatoes, an onion, 4 eggs, a piece of cheese and a pot of sour cream at home. Suggest one warm dinner for two people that I can make without going to the shop. Write the recipe briefly.
- Open ChatGPT, paste the sentence into the message box and send it. On a computer, right-click the box; on a phone, press and hold it. Choose “Paste” and press the blue arrow ↑.
- If the recipe includes something you do not have at home, type in the same box, for example:
I have no butter. What can I use instead? Replace “butter” with whatever you are actually missing.
💡 Good to know
Say how many people and how many days it is for, and what anyone does not eat. For example: “Plan 5 simple dinners for two people and one shopping list for all of them. I live in Estonia.” Then AI suggests food you can easily buy here. AI does not know exact prices – check them in the shop or on the shop’s website.
Say exactly what happened, for example “a fresh blueberry stain on a white cotton shirt”. For an appliance, write the brand, the model and the error code on the display – the same code means different things on different brands. Always test a stain remover on a hidden part of the fabric first. Unplug the appliance before cleaning it or taking it apart.
Describe where the plant grows (sun or shade, what kind of soil) and how much time you have. For example: “I have a small garden in central Estonia. The soil is wet clay, and I only have time at weekends. Suggest three perennials.” For a sick plant, write what is happening to the leaves and how often you water it.
Yes: you can take a photo of a plant, a stain or an appliance’s display with your phone and ask “What is wrong with this plant?”. To add a photo, press the “+” button on the left of the message box and choose the option for adding photos. This works without an account too. Photograph only the thing itself, not documents or people.
🎯 What you will learn: how to check a suspicious message with AI and recognise the most common scams.
✋ Try it now
- Copy this sentence – press the button below:
I received this message: “Hi Mum, my phone broke and this is my new number. I have to pay a bill today – please send 350 euros quickly, I will pay you back tomorrow.” Could this be a scam? What should I do?
- Open ChatGPT, paste the sentence into the message box and send it. On a computer, right-click the box; on a phone, press and hold it. Choose “Paste” and press the blue arrow ↑.
- When you get a real suspicious message – in English or in Estonian – do the same: copy its text into ChatGPT and ask:
Could this be a scam? Do not click the link in the message. On a phone, press and hold the message and choose “Copy”.
💡 Good to know
A scammer rushes you (“today”, “right now”), asks for money, passwords or PIN codes (including your Smart-ID or Mobiil-ID PINs) and sends unknown links. Your bank, the police and ChatGPT will never ask for your PIN codes or call you about money. If in doubt, end the call and phone a number you know yourself.
Yes, AI can be used to copy a voice and even fake a video. If your “child” or “grandchild” calls and urgently asks for money, end the call and phone them yourself on a number you know. Agree on a family code word that only you know.
ChatGPT sometimes adds a source link or a picture to its answer, which may lead to an unknown page or one in a foreign language. Only open pages you know, such as eesti.ee or the website of your bank or shop. Do not enter your details on a page you reached through a link.
Without an account, your chat is not saved for you, but the company behind ChatGPT may use chats to improve its AI. With an account, ChatGPT knows your name and may remember earlier chats – you can turn this off in the settings. Do not write anything you would not tell a stranger.
Call your bank straight away – the number is on the back of your bank card. Change your passwords and PIN codes, and report what happened to the police. Do not be ashamed: scammers are skilful, and this happens to young and experienced people too.
🎯 What you will learn: how to ask AI to turn confusing blood test abbreviations – and Estonian results – into plain English.
✋ Try it now
- Copy this sentence – press the button below:
Explain in plain English what these blood test abbreviations mean: Hb, WBC, CRP, ALAT, eGFR. Write one short sentence for each.
- Open ChatGPT, paste the sentence into the message box and send it. On a computer, right-click the box; on a phone, press and hold it. Choose “Paste” and press the blue arrow ↑.
- Now your own results: open Terviseportaal (the Estonian Health Portal), copy your results into ChatGPT and ask:
These are my blood test results in Estonian. Explain them in plain English. What has got better, what has got worse, and what can I do myself in my daily life? Copy only the test results – not your name, your isikukood or the appointment lines. There are more detailed instructions in the first line of “Good to know” below.
💡 Good to know
Press “Open Terviseportaal” and log in with your ID card, Mobiil-ID or Smart-ID – you can switch the portal to English in its language menu. On the home page, scroll down to your tests and appointments from the last six months and open the summary under “Analysis” („Analüüs“ in Estonian). Select the results with your mouse, right-click and choose “Copy”, but leave out the appointment lines – they include diagnoses. Do not use Ctrl + A: it also copies your name, your isikukood and everything else on the page.
In the Estonian view of Terviseportaal, such results are marked „Alla normi“ (below the normal range) or „Üle normi“ (above the normal range); normal results are listed under “Values in the reference range”. One slightly unusual number does not mean you are ill – what matters more is how it changes over time. The range depends on the laboratory, your sex and your age, so always compare with the range shown next to your result.
Test numbers without a name do not show whose they are. Before pasting, delete your name, your isikukood and the names of the laboratory and the doctor. You do not need to write diagnoses or your medical history – ask only about what you want to understand.
AI explains abbreviations well, but it does not know your health history and can be wrong. Do not change your medicines or doses on its advice. Instead, ask: “Write 3 questions I should ask my family doctor about these results.” If you are worried about your health, call the family doctor advice line 1220 (round the clock in Estonian and Russian, in English every day from 9:00 to 17:00). In an emergency, call 112.
📖 Blood test glossary
Here are the most common abbreviations and words in Terviseportaal, in plain English. The test names stay in Estonian even when you use the portal in English. Your reference range is shown next to your result – compare with that.
- RBC – red blood cells: they carry oxygen from the lungs around the body.

- Veri, venoosne (venous blood) – blood taken from a vein, usually at the elbow.
- Hemogramm 5-osalise leukogrammiga (full blood count with a 5-part differential) – a full blood count in which the white blood cells are divided into five types.
🎯 What you will learn: how to get next steps from AI that suit you, and how to try talking to AI by voice.
✋ Try it now
- Copy this sentence – press the button below:
I have learned how to talk to AI. I live in Estonia. Suggest 3 more things you could help me with in everyday life. Before answering, ask me 2 questions about my interests.
- Open ChatGPT, paste the sentence into the message box and send it. On a computer, right-click the box; on a phone, press and hold it. Choose “Paste” and press the blue arrow ↑.
- Answer AI’s questions by voice: press the microphone 🎙️ on the right of the box and say your answer. If the browser asks for permission, choose “Allow this time”. When you have finished, press the button that has appeared in place of the microphone – the text appears in the box. Check it and press the blue arrow ↑. If your computer has no microphone, or ChatGPT asks you to log in for this, type your answer instead.
💡 Good to know
The microphone 🎙️ turns your speech into text – you see the text before sending and can correct any mistakes. The round blue button with waves starts a voice chat: you speak and AI answers out loud (only a few minutes a day without an account). If AI talks too fast, say: “Please speak more slowly and calmly.” If the blue circle covers the text, press Ctrl and minus at the same time.
Press the button to sign up for free and enter your email address, or choose to continue with Google. You will receive an email with a 6-digit login code – type it on the ChatGPT page and continue. Never give this code to anyone else. You do not need to press free offer buttons or boxes marked as ads – they are sales offers.
With an account, ChatGPT may remember your earlier chats. If you do not want this, open the settings and turn the memory off there.
Gemini, Copilot and Claude work in a similar way, but they need a free account. On Android phones, Gemini is often already installed. The same question gives different answers in different AIs – compare them and choose the one that suits you best.
Many libraries in Estonia run free AI courses – ask your local library whether they have one in English. Ask a family member for help too, and come back to this page: one topic a week. Remember: AI gives advice, but you always make the decision.
Answer a couple of questions – it helps us make this page better. Your answer is anonymous: no name or email needed.
🌲 Tammaru Farm (Tammaru Grupp OÜ) has been selling firewood, briquettes and rotted cow manure on kaminapuud.ee since 2002 – for over 24 years. AI has been our everyday helper since 2022.
